best bodycare products of 2012.

This year my body and skin has taken a lot of drastic changes, from the melting hot weather in Tunisia (my summer holiday) all the way to the freezing temperatures of London's winter. My bodycare 'routine', even though it's more of a 'what I feel like using on that day' sort of thing, has been important to keep it hydrated throughout the year.

~ Original Source Lime Shower Gel (I will be doing a full review very very soon!) - I won't go into too much detail as I will definitely do a review of this is January but basically, this is incredible. It has such a gorgeous but not overpowering lime scent and it's really refreshing.

~ Garnier 7 Day Body Lotion in Aloe Vera (I've featured this in a favourites post here) - This is amazing and I know I've promised a full review of this, which I will do very very soon, but this is great for those days when you just need instant hydration and don't want to wait ages for it to absorb in. I would say that this is more suited for summer as it isn't as heavy but it works just as well in winter.

~ Dove Go Fresh Pomegranate Body Wash (I've done a full review here) - If you want an in-depth review of this, definitely check out the link to the review as I go into much detail. In a nutshell, I never thought a body wash could change my skin so much but this has. It makes your skin so soft and smooth and when I finish this, I will definitely repurchase it, but maybe in a different scent!

I hope you liked this and be sure to check out my other best of 2012 posts!

december favourites.

Oh my, has December flown past or what? I'm still in shock that the year is almost over.

~ The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Wash (I've done a full review here) - I've been using this wash every morning this month and it's great to get rid of excess oil on your face, especially on the T-zone. I won't go into too much detail as I've done a full review but this is definitely a cult product for me and you need the tiniest amount so it will last ages!

~ Europe Night Map Top by Tee and Cake (Topshop) - This is actually no longer on the Topshop website but I've featured it in an OOTD here. I love this top to bits but I find that the neck scoops down lower than I expected so I'm frequently pulling it up!

That's actually all I have for this last favourites of the year, I hope you all have had an amazing month and year!

ootd // i'll make my mark, i've got my spark.

I'd firstly like to say a very belated merry Christmas and I hope you all had a great day yesterday! So this is my ootd of what I wore yesterday when I visited family. I absolutely adore this top from Topshop which shows a map of Europe at night. I went with a super casual and comfy look.

I hope you liked this quick cheeky post!

best haircare products of 2012.

Unlike my 'best books of 2012' post, I'll try and keep this one a tad shorter so this is my list of favourite haircare products this year. My hair has undoubtedly been a pain in the bum, as usual, and my unruly curls have driven me mad so my haircare routine has been pretty vital. However, I do apologise as I only have 2 favourite products really because I haven't found anything outstanding.

~ Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner - This has ultimately become my best haircare purchase of the year. I didn't expect anything spectacular but wow, was I amazed. They are extremely hyrdating and make your hair super soft, shiny and smooth. When I ran out of my shaving cream, I often used the conditioner temporarily and it worked a wonder, even better than shaving cream!

~ Charles Worthington Frizz Free Serum - I actually have owned this for over a year and really only started using it properly now so the packaging I have is different to the one shown on the link to Boots so I'm not sure if they have reformulated it. Anyways, this is awesome for side fringes as you need a tiny tiny pump and run it through the ends of the fringe and after you blowdry it, voila! You'll end up with super sleek hair and no frizz in sight. However, I have heard that this is not suitable if you have coloured hair so beware.

best books of 2012.

I've definitely have read a lot of books this year and a couple have stood out to me from the rest.

~ Looking For Alaska by John Green - I first read a quote (“So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk, thinking that if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane.”) from this book on someone's tumblr ages ago and I was very intrigued. So as anyone my age would, I copied it into Google, read the plot of the book and lusted for it. This book has become extremely popular and it actually has a good reason to be as it is awesome. This was the first book I read by John Green and ever since, I have never looked back. I've read this book twice already which is quite odd for me as I usually read a book and neglect it for several years after.

"BEFORE. Miles Halter’s whole life has been one big non-event until he starts at anything-but-boring Culver Creek Boarding School and meets Alaska Young. Gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, screwed up and utterly fascinating she pulls Miles into her world, launches him into a new life, and steals his heart. But when tragedy strikes, and Miles comes face-to-face with death he discovers the value of living and loving unconditionally.

AFTER: Nothing will ever be the same."

This book is definitely perfect for teenagers and young adults, although I'm sure any aged adult would find entertainment in this book too. I found it very easy to relate to as a teenager and like all of John's books, it is not a typical lovey dovey story. Looking for Alaska is very compelling and addicting to read as it left me feeling that the story was almost reality.

~ The Fault in Our Stars - John Green (I have wrote a small review here) - I'll be honest to you, 90% of my all-time favourite books are quite literally by John Green so you may see a recurring pattern going on. Anyways, I cannot really put into words how I feel about this book. It's one of those books that after reading  it, you claim that it really has changed your life. Like a lot of his books, the importance of youth and life runs throughout it and what's more life threatening than a terminal illness?

"Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten."

Although it somewhat resembles a love story, and in it's essence it actually is one, but that aside, it is something much more than that. It's a tale of friendship, love and more importantly, the short-lived tragedy that we call 'life'. I found my heart warming to Augustus Waters, as if he was real, and without spoiling it, I was left both upset and speechless at the end.

~ The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I found that when I finished the trilogy, and in the running up to the film, this series was very overhyped. I think that it is a very compelling book but I found that it got progressively worse as the books went along, as the first book was the best and the final book was the worst.

"Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. But Katniss has been clse to death before-and survival, for her, is second nature. The Hunger Games is a searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present. Welcome to the deadliest reality TV show ever..."

I think if you're a sucker for action-packed story lines, then this is the book for you. However, after reading John Green's books, I realised that this book really did not compare as it wasn't as good. I highly recommend that you read the books before watching the film as it is much much better, trust me. I would say that this trilogy is more for teenagers rather than young adults as it has a very twilight-esque feel to it.

~ The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky (I wrote a small review here) - After finishing this book, I felt almost desperate to find another book by Stephen but to my disappointment, there are none other than this book. There are not many adjectives that could ever give this book justice and the only ones I can think of are relatable and utterly beautiful.

"Charlie is a freshman. And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it. Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix-tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But Charlie can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor."

Like Looking for Alaska, it's a story of youth and the daunting yet exciting tales of high school. There will always be at least one part of the book where you can say 'I've done that' or 'I've felt like that' and it's strangely comforting to know that you are not alone in high school and one person, despite being a fictional character, has felt like that too. This book is perfect for teenagers and young adults.

I hope you enjoyed this and I apologise for it being so long!

diy: gift baskets.

Late on Christmas shopping or just celebrating a special occasion and can't find that one perfect gift? No fear, here is a super cheap and quick DIY.

1. Get a basket - the basket isn't exactly compulsory. You can swap the traditional wicker basket for a box (that you can decorate) or you could even wrap the gifts in a sheet of plastic and tie it with a bow. You can buy a small, medium or large white wicker basket from eBay from £3.49

2. Decide on a theme - this is the most important step. Think about the person you're giving it to and what they're like. Like if they're really into beauty, you could have a theme of makeup. Or if they really like cooking, you could have a theme of global ingredients.

3. Fill up the basket - once you've decided on the theme, simply buy several items to put in the basket (make sure you have a realistic budget!). Depending on the size of your basket/holder, make sure they will all fit, i.e don't buy insanely huge items for a tiny basket and vice versa. For example, if your basket is based around the theme of makeup, you could add items like eyeshadow, eyeliner, nail polish. Tip: try not to buy specific items, like foundation, as you may not know their preferences in colour or shades based on their skin colour.

4. Gift receipt - always always always attach a gift receipt incase they need to return something, eg. if they are allergic or just don't like it much. The best things about the gift receipts are that they don't say how much you spent, instead they can only exchange items.

5. Spice it up - add a bow or glitter or anything really to jazz it up a little. Presentation is really key here as if it looks scruffy, it won't look like much thought or appreciation has gone into it, unless the scruffy look is what you're going for!

ootd // when our eyes meet, we can see each others soul.

dress: h&m (old)
belt: primark
cardigan: hollister (old)
tights: primark

Last night, I went to a party to say bye to my friend Sam as she spent her final night in London before she moved away :(

I decided to whip out my festive cardigan as we are so close to Christmas now and I hardly ever get to wear it! I added on an old shirt dress and tied it in with a plaited belt. I didn't get to take a picture but I was wearing my brown Dr Marten serena boots.

my current favourite 3 books (fiction) #1.

Ever since I got my Kindle in April, I've literally been addicted. Not only does it save me money as eBooks are generally a lot cheaper than paperbacks/hardbacks, it's saved a lot of space on my shelves. I have two shelving units, quite large ones, crammed with books from my childhood/recent purchases from about a year ago, that I can't bear to throw away. So now my Kindle is filled with mature books, unlike the books on my shelves, like the Famous Five series.

Lately, I've loved reading books on the Kindle and in general really. I've found that I've got through a lot of books really quickly and maybe in the new year, I'll do another post with my other favourite books!

~ The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky - this book is incredible. I read it on holiday in Tunisia and at first, I didn't enjoy it at all. It's about a boy called Charlie who is new at high school and writes about his new experiences and friends to an anonymous person though letters. I found it quite difficult to understand at first as it had an unusual format of telling a story through letters. Once I got through a quarter of the book, I was hooked. I really like how throughout the book, we see the Charlie slowly coming out of his shell. If you haven't yet seen the amazing film, I recommend you read this first as the film cuts out a lot of vital information, making it quite hard to understand. The only thing I dislike about the book is the length. I found it was so short and I was wishing it could be longer somehow because I didn't want to end as I loved it so much.

~ The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - you may soon see a pattern in future posts as several of my current favourites are by John Green. John is a fantastic writer, probably one of the best I have come across. He has a very influential way of writing. He writes as if he is your friend casually talking to you but the way he writes is so mesmerizing at the same time, if that is even possible. The book is about a girl called Hazel who has cancer. It also features a boy called Augustus Waters, who also has cancer, and well, it's pretty much a boy meets girl story. Despite being so predictable, which I usually hate, he writes in a way that makes you know what's coming up but slowly doubting your certainty. Even though it is predictable, it's still so touching and awe-inspiring at the same time. I definitely recommend this for nearly everyone, even if you aren't a fan of love stories, it's got a real good storyline, which is a characteristic sometimes lost in typical books about love.

~ The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold - I watched this film before I read the book and that is possibly one thing that I regret. I'm a firm believer that books are better than the films produced out of them and this was no exception. I found myself knowing what was happening next and I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. The book is about a girl who is murdered by her neighbour and watches down on her friends, family and killer, in purgatory. It was really touching to read her slowly accept her death and move on and eventually, go to heaven. I must say that even though the film was amazing, the book is just so good, words can't describe it. This book is not for the faint-hearted as I found it was a tear-jerker, which is very strange for me as the only book I've cried through is Cloud Busting by Malorie Blackman.

I hope you liked this and if you want me to do more posts like this, please let me know!
